A.D. Burgess, age 70, of Forest City, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at his residence.
Born Saturday, June 22, 1946 in Polk County, he was a son to the late Theodore Roosevelt Burgess and Mary Willis Skipper Burgess. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans #25, American Legion Post #423 and the Rutherford County Honor Guard. He was a truck driver for thirty-two years and a was a member of the Victory In Jesus Baptist Church of Sunnyview. A.D. enjoyed going to flea markets and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah Wilson, Lena McDaniel and Minnie Gibbs; three brothers, Calvin Burgess, R.L. Burgess and J.C. Burgess.
Survivors include five daughters, Darlene McEntire and husband, Buddy of Mill Spring, Mary Kirkpatrick of Rutherfordton, Michelle Clanton of Forest City, Karen Denise Burgess of Clinton, SC and Teresa Stanford and husband, Jesse of Ellenboro; one son, A.D. Dalton, Jr. of Forest City, three sisters, Geneva Runnings of New York, Lefoy Ruff and husband, Abraham of Kings Mountain and Wilma Clemmons and husband, Robert of Rutherfordton; brother, Donald Burgess and wife, Carolyn of Hendersonville; two brother-in-law, Paul McDaniel of Lake Lure and Bill Gibbs of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Grace Burgess of Lake Lure. He is also survived by a special nephew, Daniel Kitner and wife, Crystal of Forest City; thirty-two grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul Nelon and Reverend Todd Lawter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A committal service will be conducted at the Victory In Jesus Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday following the services with military honors being rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard to follow in the cemetery.
