Alva 'Ray' Hunt, age 74, of 239 Westwood Drive, Forest City, NC, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Rutherford Hospital.
Ray was born on March 11, 1936 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Lonnie Pinkney Hunt and Vernie Lee Propst Hunt. He worked for Milliken Mills-Golden Valley Plant as a defender for many years and was a member of Bostic Missionary Methodist Church. Among his life's enjoyments were taking his children and grandchildren to Florida, he especially was fond of seeing the beauty of sunsets on Daytona Beach and traveling in order to experience the splendor of God's creation. He always wanted to see 'what was on the other side of the mountain.'
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Ray Hunt; two brothers, Fred Hunt and Jim Hunt and three sisters, Mitzi Brackett, Alice Hunt and Mattie Grimes.
Survivors include his fianc', Ruth Bumgarner of Bostic; one daughter, Alice Ruth Tessnair of Bostic; eight sons, Lonnie Robert Hunt and wife, Carolyn, of Bostic, Dale William Hunt of Boiling Springs, NC, Harley Edward Hunt and wife, Pat, of Bostic, Leroy Hunt and wife, Bonnie, of Morganton, Davie Bryant Hunt of Bostic, Don Robin Hunt and wife, Renee, of Bostic, Jimmy Ray Hunt and wife, Donna, of Bostic and Windell Ray McCurry and wife, Lisa, of Bostic; one brother, J.T. Hunt of Bostic and three sisters, Barbara Jean Bumgarner of Bostic, Louise Watkins of Bostic and Mildred Harris of Forest City. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
