A.W. Horton, age 81, of Forest City, NC, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at his residence.
Born January 20, 1933 in Cherokee County, SC, he was a son of the late George and Minnie Horton. He was a truck driver for Akers Freight Lines for many years and then worked for Hoechst Celanese for several years before retirement. A.W. was a faithful member of Harris Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was also a past member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460 and was a 32nd degree Mason. A.W. enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and taking care of his animals. He was a kind and gentle man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George "Will" Horton, Clarence Horton, Nink Horton, Sumpter Horton and six sisters, Bonnie Jones, Velma Jackson, Myrtle Blanton, Etrolia Camp, Mae Ruth Hamrick and Vernie Fox.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Nell Horton; son, Alan Horton and wife, Jodi of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Crystal Giarmo and husband, Rick of Whiting, NJ; sister, Violet Painter of Ft. Myers, FL; two grandchildren, Kylie Horton, Alan Horton II and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend George Whitmire and Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
