Barbara Eloise Powell

     Barbara Eloise Powell, age 96, of Ellenboro, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

     Barbara was born Sunday, December 19, 1926 in Rutherford County to the late Walter Winslow Padgett and Cordie Cora Goforth Padgett. She was a graduate of Ellenboro High School, class of 1945. Barbara worked many years for Celanese Manufacturing and was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church. She also worked for Wilkey’s Greenhouse for several years. Barbara enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Walter Powell; son, Walter Gene Powell; brothers, Calvin and Hubert Padgett and a sister, Beatrice Lavender.

     Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Wayne Powell (Jane) of Bostic and Ronnie Powell (Gilda); sister, Diane Padgett Hewitt of Forest City; brother, Norman Padgett of Bostic; grandsons, Nathan, Norman, Christopher and Caleb Powell and a great-granddaughter, Emma Powell.

     The funeral service will be conducted at 5:00 pm on Monday, April 17^th at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend David Easler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time in the Family Life Center.
