Barbara Ann Thomas, age 74, of Countryside Drive, Forest City, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Born September 19, 1942 in Washington County, Virginia, she was a daughter to the late George G. Long and Nell Patrick Long. Barbara worked as a department manager for several years at Roses Department Store and was a homemaker. She attended New Harvest Church. Barbara had a heart of love for others and displayed her love by teaching Sunday School, ministering to those in nursing homes, doing mission work in the Dominican Republic and being a prayer warrior. She also enjoyed doing cross-stitch and writing poetry. She truly loved her Lord and her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Thomas.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of fifty-nine years, Wiley Thomas; one daughter, Lori Thomas Benfield and husband, Michael of Forest City; a son, Dan Thomas and wife, Kellie of Boiling Springs, NC; two sisters, Patricia Pies and husband, Ed of Shelby and Judy Edwards of Mooresville, NC. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Lauren Benfield and Emily Thomas.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Restoration Church with Reverend Jerry Hames, Reverend Ronnie Robbins and Reverend Dale Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
