Bernard Prosser of Bostic, NC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
He was born May 9, 1926 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Morris Prosser and Molly Reefe Prosser and grew up in the New York City metropolitan area. He received a BA in Accounting from Long Island University and was a veteran of the US Navy having served on a minesweeper during World War II. In his early years, he traveled the Midwest as a sales representative, later opening his own business selling products to major chain stores and traveling to Europe on buying trips.
Bernie enjoyed living in New York City where he attended theatre performances for over 50 years, seeing most of the original stars on stage. He loved intellectual and cultural pursuits and was a clever conversationalist; he enjoyed fun times at Hurley's Bar in Rockefeller Center with stars Hugh Downs and Jack Parr, dishing up comedy routines and monologues.
After retiring in 2004, he and his wife, Billie, moved from New York City to travel and live in Arizona, Washington and Florida, before settling in Rutherford County in 2010.
He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Billie Ann, of the home; son, Marc Zachary of Brooklyn, NY; step-son, William R. Andersen, of Hatteras, NC and Mildred Prosser, wife of his brother, Herbert who preceded him in 2011.
No formal services are planned at the present time.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Rutherford County Humane Society, PO Box 998, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
