Billy Baber, age 95, of Forest City, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Billy was born Friday, March 20, 1925 in Rutherford County to the late Edgar Baber and Ida Gosey Baber. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II where he fought in the Pacific Theater and was part of the occupation forces in Japan. He worked as an electrical superintendent for Duke Energy for thirty-three years before retirement. Billy was a member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #74. In his retirement years, Billy was known by the community for his daily exercise walks in Wal-Mart, the breakfast crowd at Hardees and the lunch crowd at Wendy’s. He endeared himself to many and was humbled to serve his God and his Country.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Doris Pearson Baber and eleven siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Barry Baber and wife, Karen of Salem, SC; two granddaughters, Caitlin Baber, Jessica Bowles (Jason) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Goodes Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Glenn Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
