Blanche Cureton Ponder, age 82, of East High Road, Bostic, NC, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.
Born April 30, 1933 in Newport, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Jess Cureton and Nanney Bell Whitlock Cureton. She worked for Cone Mills most her life and was a longtime member of Trinity Wesleyan Church of Forest City. Blanche loved spending time with her family and taking care of her animals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Junior Ponder; son, Robert Marshall Ponder, Sr.; four brothers, Calvin, Red, James and Ralph Cureton; two sisters, Goldie Mae Cureton, Mary Elizabeth Cureton and grandson, Brian Ponder.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara Conner and husband, Gene of Lake Lure; two sons, Bill Ponder and wife, Chris of Rutherfordton and David Ponder and wife, Jenis of Bostic; one sister, Imogene Miller of Newport, TN; three brothers, William Cureton and wife, June of Marion, Fred Cureton of Arizona and Lloyd Cureton of Fletcher, NC; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hardin Ponder of Bostic. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jamie Luckadoo, Chance Conner, Jesse Conner, Mary Elizabeth Smith, Ray Jr. Ponder, David Eric Ponder, Robyn Renee Ponder, Steven Eric Ponder, Amy Claire Moore, Adam Earle Ponder, Carol Williams, Michael Ray Ponder, Robert Marshall Ponder, Jr.; twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at eleven o'clock on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Larry Segers and Reverend Allen Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
