Bobbie Jean Dobbins Rhymer, age 87, of Rutherford County, transitioned peacefully, late Saturday afternoon, November 9th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Born with a deep sense of purpose, she often remarked that she "believed and was told she was born SPECIAL!” and indeed, her life was a testament to that belief.
Bobbie Jean dedicated her life to her Lord, her family, and her community. She was best known as a Leader and Prayer Warrior, touching the lives of many through her unwavering commitment to her church and community service. A lifelong resident of Rutherford County, her presence was a constant source of strength and encouragement to those around her.
She was married to the late Ben Rhymer, with whom she shared many wonderful years (44) of marriage.
Bobbie is survived by her beloved children: daughter, Benita R. Beard, of Conover, NC; son, Robert B. Rhymer “Robbie” of Nashville, TN; and son-in-law, Edward L. Beard “Eddie” and Larry Johnson, of Hickory, NC. She was a proud grandmother to Taylor and Alexandra Beard of Wilmington, NC, Jordan Beard of Conover, NC, and Caleb Beard, of Conover, NC. Her great-grandson, Henley Lancaster Beard, of Wilmington, NC, brought her immense joy. Bobbie Jean also cherished her grand-fur babies, who were a special part of her family.
She is also survived by her sister, Kay Francis Dobbins Greene, sister-in-law, Pat Newton Watson, and was a beloved Aunt to her nephews and nieces.
Bobbie Jean was a life-long devoted member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was also a proud member of the Red Hatters, serving as the “Queen Mum,” a role that perfectly suited her vibrant spirit and love for fellowship.
Services will be held at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 12th, at 2:00 pm. Pastor Robert Carnell and Mrs. Gail Holland will officiate. The family will receive friends and loved ones during a visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to her “Joyful Celebration of Life.” The interment will take place following the service in the Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice of Rutherford County, INC., Fair Haven – Forest City, Forest City and/or Rutherford Animal Shelter, reflecting Bobbie’s lifelong commitment to helping others and making the world a better place.
Bobbie Jean Dobbins Rhymer will be remembered for her strong faith, her loving heart, and her unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
