Bobby McDaniel, age 83, of Mooresboro, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Bobby was born Wednesday, April 19, 1939 in Rutherford County to the late J.C. McDaniel and Katy Durham McDaniel. He was a graduate of Harris High School, class of 1957. Bobby honorably served in the U.S Air Force and was stationed in Saigon during the Vietnam War. He started his working years as a disc jockey (DJ) at a local radio station, WBBO in the early sixties. In his early years, Bobby was also the announcer at Chase High football games. He then began a career with Duke Power that lasted thirty-two years before retirement. Bobby was a seasoned storyteller and enjoyed talking about his “growing up” days. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid coin and stamp collector. Bobby was a scoutmaster for the boy scouts and had the distinction of seeing twenty young men earn their Eagle Scout status under his leadership. He was a member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Richard McDaniel; brother-in-law, Freddy Spears and a niece, Tanya B. Huffman.

Left to cherish fond memories are his loving wife of almost sixty years, Linda S. McDaniel; daughter, Tammy R. McDaniel of Arden, NC; son, Kevan L. McDaniel, Sr. of Boiling Springs, NC; grandson, Army Specialist, Kevan L. McDaniel, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado; granddaughters, Megan Wilhoit and Amber Martin; great grandchildren, Branson and Berkley Wilhoit; sister-in-law, Nita Beaver (Dock) of Mooresboro; special niece, Cynthia Spears; nephew, Todd Beaver (Maria) and a “bonus daughter”, Laurel Van Hook.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, December 2nd at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Raymond Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rutherford County Honor Guard providing military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
