Briscoe Givens

Briscoe John "BJ" Givens, age 89, of Bostic, NC, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Briscoe was born March 24, 1924 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Baxter C. Givens and Daisy Justice Givens. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church. Briscoe served in the United States Navy in Europe, South Africa and the Philippines during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Givens; one son, John Givens and wife, Barbara of Inman, SC; one daughter, Faith Avalos and husband, Jerry of Rural Hall, NC; three brothers, Charles Givens, Rev. Foster Givens, and James Givens; six grandchildren, Briscoe John "Tripp" Givens III, Mary Blake Givens, David Andrew Givens, Benjamin Lloyd Givens, Jeremy Bryan Avalos, and Joshua Brandon Avalos; two great grandchildren, Maddie Ann Givens and Baxter Reaves Givens.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Interment will follow at the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
