Carl Deaton, age 85, of Caroleen, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Hospice House in Forest City.
Born February 1, 1932 in Rome, Georgia, he was a son of the late Fred Lee Deaton and Clara Belle Spratling Deaton. He was a veteran of U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was stationed at the Panama Canal during the war. He worked for Colonial Bakery and the Sunbeam Bakery in Asheville. Carl worked as a supervisor for Burlington Industries in Henrietta and the John H. Montgomery Mill in Chesnee before retirement. He was a longtime member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church and was presently attending Grace Chapel Four Square Church in Forest City. Carl was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his motorcycle even up into his later years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Ruby "Colleen" Deaton; three brothers, Danny Deaton, Leo Deaton and Terry Stripling and a sister, Ann Wilson.
Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Rhonda Moore and husband, Harold of Mooresboro, Pam Houser and husband, Chris of Mechanicsville, Virginia and Donna Hardin and husband, Jimmy of Marion; two sons, Eddie Deaton and wife, Carol and Phillip Deaton and wife, Lisa all of Forest City; one brother, Jack Deaton; one sister, Linda Sluder and husband Jim all of Asheville. He is also survived by two special friends, Ernestine Poteat and Angie Toney; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ricky Poteat and Mr. Daniel Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Goodes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
