Charles Steven Campfield, 77, of Nebo, NC, passed away, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Chuck was born June 6, 1938 in Swannanoa, NC to Allen and Carrie Campfield. An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Chuck became prominent in local radio in Paragould, Arkansas and more recently at WWNC and Billy Graham's AM flagship station, WFGW. In retirement, he loved to fish with his wife Shirley on their boat. He loved to fix things too; if it was broke, Chuck was on it.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Campfield, daughter Carolyn Campfield and her husband John of Prescott, WI; step-daughter Terry Smart of Asheville, NC and step-sons Marcus Smart of Swannanoa, NC and Chris Smart and his wife, Star, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Orion, Calum, Phoenix, Lili, and Lyra. His best friends, Harold and Carol Pullium, were steadfast friends to Chuck and Shirley, and deserve to be included as family.
A private celebration of life will be held on a later date.
A special thank you to the entire staff of Hospice of Rutherford County for their loving, kind, and generous care.
