Charles "Wink" Horton, age 84, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Oak Grove Nursing Center.
Born June 2, 1930 in Rutherford County, he was as son of the late Clyde Pannell Horton and Sarah Green Horton. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War. Charles worked Stonecutter Mill for over thirty-nine years before his retirement and was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Davis Horton; granddaughter, Jamie Darlene Horton; three brothers, C.P. Horton Jr., Howard Horton and Carl "Bo" Horton.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Horton and James Matthew Horton and wife, Angela all of Rutherfordton; step-daughter, Wanda Sprouse also of Rutherfordton; three sisters, Margaret Upton of Sunshine, Grace Newton of Andrews, NC and Martha Buchanan and husband, Bob of Shelby; brother, Robert Horton and wife, Tammy of Sunshine; three grandsons, Casey Porter, James Matthew Horton, Jr., Charles Michael Horton and great-granddaughter, McKenna Porter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Charles Brooks and Reverend Wesley Hudgins officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard at the funeral home. A private interment will follow in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
