Charles S. Martin, age 89, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023 due to a traffic accident.
Charles was born Thursday, May 3, 1934 in Rutherford County to the late J. L. Martin and Lilly Weaver Martin. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and served during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. After his military discharge he traveled around the country working on machines as a maintenance technician. Charles finished his career at Milliken and Company in the maintenance department before retiring. You could always find him “tinkering” on anything with an engine. He was well respected and loved by many. Charles was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and was currently attending High Shoal Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Quinza Martin, Geneva Bartee, Thelma Haynes, Dorcas Greenlee and Eunice Harrill; four brothers, Dames, Pervis, Lloyd and Cecil Martin.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Inez Martin of Forest City; special friend, Joan Benfield of Forest City and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 28th at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Shane Adkins officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the graveside. The body will lie in state from 8:00 until 10:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home.
