Charles R. Wheeler, age 83, of Forest City, NC, died Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Charles was born September 29, 1929 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Jess W. Wheeler and Edna Gillespie Wheeler. He was a graduate of Tri-High School and served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was stationed at Sangley Point Station in the Philippines. Charles was also a Merchant Marine and worked for PPG Industries for twenty-five years before his retirement. He was a member of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed yard work, gardening and making conversation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Max Wheeler and Billy Wheeler; sister, Jennie Swafford and one grandson, Anthony Trotter.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost sixty years, Shirley Wheeler; daughter, Sheila W. Trotter; son, Mark Wheeler and wife, Donna all of Forest City; five grandchildren, Dawn Trotter, Tonya Trotter, Scott Wheeler, Andrea Wheeler and Andrew Wheeler. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and two longtime family friends, Dale Blanton and Adrian Carillo.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Bradley and Reverend Howard Hardin officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
