Cynthia Gail Hogan Smathers

Cynthia Gail Hogan Smathers, age 75, of Spindale, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills after several years of declining health.

Born Friday, January 3, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James and Kathleen Hall Sisk and the late Roy Hogan.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Smathers.

Gail was a graduate of Chase High School and retired from Rutherford County School’s Transportation Department, where she was a safety assistant.  Gail worked many years at Deb Mfg., where she served as the office manager and at GenPak Corporation as a Customer Service Manager.  Gail was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed being with friends and family and enjoyed working with special needs children, dancing and traveling.  Gail also enjoyed listening to gospel and country music.

Those left to cherish fond memories include a son, Don Smathers of Rutherfordton; daughter, Lamonda Buchanan Henderson (Larry) of Forest City; brother, James Sisk, Jr. (Dot) of McLeansville, NC. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Aleya Smathers, Kensington Smathers, Skylar Trout and a number of close friends, which includes a very special friend, Geneva Hudgins of Rutherfordton.

The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Roy Hall officiating.  Interment will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
