David “D.L.” Smart, age 95, of Ellenboro, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
D.L. was born September 16, 1924 in Rutherford County to the late Ulysses Vance Smart and Lona Mae Whitesides Smart. He worked in textiles and owned and operated the David Smart Rug Company for many years. D.L. was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church and an avid coon hunter and fisherman. He also loved gardening and going to flea markets.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Winnie Mae Davidson Smart; two brothers, Erastus Vance Smart, Robert Lee Smart and by a close friend who was like a son, Hitus Harrill.
Those left to cherish his memory include three sons, Kenneth Smart (Paula), Dennis Smart (Lisa) and Joe Smart (Kristina) all of Ellenboro; five grandchildren, Shane Smart (Shannon), Cody Smart, Kelly Horn, Nikki Smart (Michael Wall), Kennedy Smart and six great-grandchildren, Kayla Horn, Gabriel Horn, Anna Wall, Lucas Wall, Kanean Smart and Zoe Smart. He is also survived by two sisters, Flora Ann Smith and Wilma Shytle (Bill) all of Ellenboro.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Corinth Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Conner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
