David Norman Wallace of Rutherford County died Tuesday May 21, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, after a short illness. He was the son of the late Guy Worth Wallace and Effie Smith Wallace. He was also preceded in death by nine siblings: Guy Wallace, Jr., Mary Wallace Medford, Wyman Leslie Wallace, Dorothy Wallace Osborne, Una Ruth Wallace Brackett, Clyde Lee Wallace, Betty Wallace Linder, Lewis Edward Wallace, and Margaret Christine Wallace Hughes.
David is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Joyce Mathis Wallace; one brother, John Hix Wallace (Sandra) of Rutherfordton; a sister-in-law, Billy Joe Mathis Crook of Douglas, GA and his care helpers during his illness, David Linder, Kenneth Linder, Laura Linder, Nelson Hudgens, Betty Joe Mathis Crook, Rocky Guariello and Paul Hellebrand.
During the fifty-six years of marriage to Joyce, they cared for fourteen dogs, and seventeen cats which were all rescue animals; all given to them. Each of their pets were neutered or spayed. Surviving is one dog, Shiloh and two cats, Tip and Tiger.
David was eight years old when he begin his paper route in Spindale and also set up the bowling pins at the Spindale House, before automation. He enjoyed bowling and was always ready for a golf game in his retirement. David graduated from R-S Central High School in 1961 and earned his Associates degree from ICC. He was a musician and played the bass guitar most of his life. David's passion for music led him to travel with several bands
His employment included AGI, Fieldcrest Mills, New Cherokee Textiles, Lowes and later retired from Allied Die Casting. He faithfully attended yoga and stretching classes at Life-Style Wellness and Spa. He especially enjoyed building new friendships while working out.
He attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Forest City. David served on the committee for his 50th high school reunion and always attended their get-togethers.
No formal services will be conducted in accordance with the family's wishes.
