Detroy Henderson, age 92, of State Line Road, Mooresboro, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Fair Haven of Forest City.
Born August 6, 1925 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Andrew Henderson and Dorothy Cash Henderson. Detroy worked for Arrow Automotive of Spartanburg for over twenty years and the Community Cash Grocery Store in Chesnee for almost ten years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his military service he was part of the occupational forces in Nagasaki, Japan. Detroy was a faithful member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and on the cemetery committee. He loved woodworking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Patterson; three brothers, Broughton, Albert and J.C. Henderson; four sisters, Inez Gardner, Irene Guest, Allie Putman and Alta Griffin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of seventy-one years, Revis Hines Henderson; son, Larrie Henderson and wife, Deborah of West Columbia, SC; one sister, Murlene Ridings of Spartanburg. He is also survived by a grandson, Larrie Henderson II of Anderson, SC and a great-grandson, Adam Henderson of Greenville, SC.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Hicks Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Richard Byrd and Reverend Don McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
