D.G. Godfrey

D.G. Godfrey, age 72, of Forest City, NC, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
D. G. was born November 13, 1940 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Claude Godfrey and Aby Collins Godfrey. He was a veteran of the US Army and worked for over 30 years in the Maintenance Department for the Rutherford County Public Schools. He was a member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460 and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Oasis Shrine and Cliffside Eastern Star Chapter #100. D. G. also was a faithful member of Riverside Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to flea markets and was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gaston David Godfrey and one sister, Janice Godfrey Crook.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Hazel Godfrey; four sons, Billy Gragg and wife, Mary Ellen of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Robert Gragg and wife, Nell of Forest City, Mark Gragg and wife, Pam of Ellenboro and Frank Godfrey of Forest City; one daughter, Angela Schronce and husband, Keith of Claremont, NC; two sisters, Shirley Guest and husband, Carol of Forest City and Sudie Joy of Florence, SC; one brother, Joe Godfrey and wife, Faye of Gilkey, NC. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Michael, Rachel and Tyler Gragg, Michael Ruff, Nichole and Rodney Gragg, Shayana Lail, David Ridings, Jason Selph, Nathan and Daniel Schronce; ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Ted Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites being accorded by the Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460 and Military Honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
