Doris "Joan" Allred, age 78, of Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born June 26, 1939 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Odell Allred and Letha Hughes Allred. Joan worked in textiles and managed a convenience store for several years. She also worked as a cashier at Hardees. She was a member of Pilgrim's Way Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, playing bingo and taking care of the elderly. Joan was also an animal lover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jerome Kent Calhoun and Marion Michael Calhoun and a daughter, Nita Keeter; two sisters, Martha Campbell and Donnie Jean McCurry and a brother Robert "Bob" Allred.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Rita Bostic of Forest City, Regina Elliott and husband, Donnie of Rutherfordton and Tammy Ensley and husband, Frank of Union Mills; two brothers, Gary Allred and wife, Sharlene of Caroleen and Ricky Allred and wife, Mary of Mooresboro; one sister, Millie Lineberry and husband, Jerry of Forest City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Gary Bostic, Jr., Mary Bostic, Joan Bostic, Donnie Elliott, Jr., Nikki Wright, Christina Harrill, Shelly Owens, Candy Stokes and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at The Village Chapel Church with Reverend Wayne Stafford and Reverend Frank Ensley officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
