Doris McEntyre Conner, age 81, of Race Path Church Road, Ellenboro, died Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born March 15, 1934 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late John Spurlin and Lyna Turner Spurlin. Doris was a graduate of Ellenboro High School, class of 1951. She was a homemaker and also worked for Dover Mills for many years. She was a member of Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church and attended the Gilkey Church of God. She also enjoyed playing games and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Junior McEntyre and a second husband, Charles Conner; two brothers, Ned and Robert Spurlin and one sister, Agnes Sisk.
Survivors include two sons, Ron McEntyre and wife, Patricia of Ellenboro and Jerry McEntyre and wife, Marilyn of Union Mills; two daughters, Diane Ramsey and husband, David of Sunshine Community and Janice Champion of Shelby; step-son, William Conner and wife, Bonna of Mill Springs; two sisters, Jenny Cole of Rutherfordton and Betty Jean Bowman and husband, Mabrey of Shelby. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at three o'clock on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Gilkey Church of God with Reverend Chris Kennedy and Reverend Kenneth Lytle officiating. Interment will follow in Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
