Dorothy Ann Thrift

Dorothy Ann Thrift, age 86, of Rutherfordton, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby.

Dorothy was born Sunday, December 30, 1934 in Rutherford County to the late Ralph and Morea Scruggs. She was a graduate of Cliffside High School, class of 1952 and worked in textiles for many years before retiring from the mill in Caroleen. She was a longtime member of Chesnee Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed growing plants, watching cooking shows and working word search puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Willie Thrift; brother, Gene Scruggs and his wife, Francis; granddaughter, Angela Toney and a son-in-law, Junior Appleman.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Joy Appleman of Mooresboro, Deborah Toney (Rick) of Rutherfordton, Jeff Thrift of Mooresboro, Sondra Tucker (Joey) of Chesnee and a sister, Cathy Angle (Greg) of Lenoir. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery.
