Dr.Thomas Geer Kenny II, age 94, of Forest City, died Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Thomas was born December 4, 1925 in Albany, New York to the late Thomas Geer Kenny, Sr. and Dora Redmond Kenny. Thomas was a highly decorated World War II veteran where he served in the U.S. Navy on the minesweeper, USS Rebel.
As a seven-year-old, Thomas was considered a child prodigy in playing the French Horn. He received an honorary Doctorate from the prestigious McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After many years of serving as a professor in the music department at McGill University, he and his wife owned and operated a non-profit music boutique in Montreal. He had a lifelong desire to teach and help students learn the discipline of music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Andre`e Belanger Kenny; twin brother, Edgar Kenny, Sr., sister, Agnes Kenny and brother, Buddy Charles Kenny.
Survivors include four sons, Thomas G. Kenny III, Patrick Kenny, Alan Kenny, Brian Kenny and a daughter, Cathleen Kenny; six nieces and nephews, Kathleen Edwards of Forest City, James Kenny of Forest City, Ralph Edwards of Forest City, Paul Kenny of New Jersey, William Kenny of New Hampshire and Laura MacDonald of Massachusetts.
No formal services will be conducted. Mr. Kenny’s ashes will be inurned at a State Veterans Cemetery in Florida.
