Dufay Gowan, age 75, of 5730 US Highway 221S, Forest City, NC, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his residence.
He was born December 6, 1933 in Spartanburg County to the late Jonas Alvin Gowan and Ethel Bowen Gowan. He worked as a loom fixer for Reaves Brothers Mills for 35 years before his retirement. He also served our country in the US Army as a radar operator. He was a member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed trapping, fishing, playing cards and especially providing popsicles and cookies for his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Frances Adair Gowan; three brothers, Alvin Gowan, Harland Gowan and Ryan Gowan; three sisters, Inez Hammett, Corrine King, and Ida Mae Sprouse.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Gowan and his wife, Tina of Forest City, Kenneth Gowan and his wife, Nancy of Forest City and Michael Gowan and his wife, Doreen, of Chesnee, SC; one daughter, Barbara Reid and her husband, Mike, of Forest City. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and his cat, Buttons.
