Edward Lima

Edward J.T. Lima, 92, of Forest City, NC died March 19, 2009, at Hospice House of Forest City. Ed was born July 9, 1916 in Providence, RI to Joseph Lima and Emilia Peters. Following high school graduation and after working at several jobs in Providence and Tiverton, RI, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was trained as a radio operator. He served in the South Pacific and was later stationed at Ft. Riley in Manhattan, KS. He married Hazel May Anderson of Hope, KS on April 2, 1944.

Ed and Hazel moved to Ft. Wayne, IN where he graduated from Fort Wayne Technical College with a BS in Electrical Engineering and was employed by the Farnsworth Corp. During his career he was employed by Bendix Corp., Pontiac, MI, Cooke Electric, Chicago, IL, and McDonald Douglas, St. Louis, MO. In 1971 Ed and Hazel moved to Forest City, NC where Ed worked as an instructor at Isothermal Community College in Spindale, NC until his retirement.

Following his retirement Ed and Hazel travelled extensively in the U.S. and abroad visiting several European countries and taking several cruises including the Panama Canal and Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, his parents, and one sister, Helen Raposa of Tiverton, RI.

He is survived by his sons, Anthony Lima of San Jose, CA and Thomas Lima of Omaha, NE; two daughters-in-law, Norma Schroeder of San Jose, CA and Ginger Lima of Omaha, NE four grandchildren, Eric, Evan, and Elise Lima of Omaha and Erin Sobansky of Baton Rouge, LA; three grandchildren-in-law Mindy Lima (husband Eric), Dustin Hoffman (fianc'e Elise), and Cody Sobansky (wife Erin) of Baton Rouge, LA; one great granddaughter, Zara Sobansky of Baton Rouge, LA; and many nieces and nephews.
