Frances P. Melton, age 94, of Forest City, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Frances was born Tuesday, July 19, 1927 in Rutherford County to the late Eula Phillips and Edna Tate Phillips. She was a graduate of Harris High School, class of 1945 and a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church. She worked as a quality control technician at Cone Mills-Avondale Plant for many years and as the Candy Counter Clerk for Eagle’s Dime Store. Frances was a dedicated homemaker who loved her family dearly. She loved her community and was known as a “people person” and enjoyed reading and working on puzzle books.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, James H. Melton; five brothers, Jack, James, Claude, Everett and Robert Phillips; four sisters, Macie Morrow, Ruby Hamrick, Thelma Jolley and Gladys Harrill.
Left to cherish fond memories are her son, Chester Melton (Glenda) of Forest City; granddaughters, Gina Harrill (Thad) of Forest City and Caroline Calvert (Josh) of Gilkey; five great-grandchildren, Sydney Wilson (Zach), Annsley Harrill (fiancé, Austin Meck), Avery Calvert, Carter Calvert and Sylvia Calvert.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Josh Calvert officiating. A private interment will be held at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
