Freda Burgess Jones

 Freda Burgess Jones, age 85, of Ellenboro, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at White Oak Manor in Shelby.

 Freda was born Tuesday, October 4, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late John Posey Burgess and Nellie Crowe Burgess. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, Limestone College and earned a master’s degree in education from Appalachian State University. Freda was a dedicated teacher who taught most of her fifty-seven-year teaching career at Ellenboro Elementary School. She loved her students, and they became her extended family. Freda was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Clyde Jones; a niece, Karen Rosinski and nephew, Eddie Ayres.

 Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters, Catherine Burgess Street (Randy) of Shelby and Jane Burgess Ayres of Ellenboro; a host of nieces and nephews which includes, Mike Frazier (Charlene) of Spartanburg, Cynthia Jerome (Paul) of Virginia, Melissa Flood (Dan) of Gastonia and Donna Granahan of Virginia.

 The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 31st at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Stephen Bright officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
