George Mcswain

August 5, 1916 — December 5, 2007

George Wade McSwain, 91, of Henrietta, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Hospice House. Born in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Buster "Bus" McSwain and Mamie Lou Moore McSwain. He served in the Army during World War II and was a recipient of two purple hearts. He was a long time resident of Rutherford County having worked for a number of years in the Henrietta Mill. He also owned and operated several businesses which included the Harrilltown Skating Rink, the Central High Hill Skating Rink, McSwain's Auto Sales and the ESSO service station in Avondale. He helped organize the American Legion Post #423 in Caroleen, and was a Charter member of Temple Baptist Church. George was also a Master Mason of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460 and a Shriner. He enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing and never met a stranger. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and brother. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Virginia McCraw McSwain; one brother, Baby Boy McSwain; two sisters, Mildred Forbes of Great Falls, SC and Inez Grant of Forest City.

He is survived by his son Don Calvin McSwain and wife Helen of Charlotte, NC; one brother Tommy McSwain of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Margaret Yelton of Forest City and a number of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give thanks to Helen White, Fairhaven Nursing Home and Hospice of Rutherford County for their special care.
