George Pintoff

George W. Pintoff, Sr., age 83, of 119 Buckner Road, Mooresboro, NC, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at his home. He was born February 22, 1925 in Rutherford County to the late Costa Pintoff and Gailey Piercy Pintoff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 plus years, Ruby Shaffer Pintoff and a son, Michael Pintoff. George worked as an assistant overseer of Jackson Mills in Welford, SC. He was a retired Major in the US Marines Corps having served his country during World War II and the Korean War. He served with the 4th Marine Division and fought on the sands at Iwo Jima. He was wounded two times and received the Navy Cross. He was also a POW during his service in the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion
Post # 423. He was also a longtime member of Advent Lutheran Church of Spindale.
He is survived by four sons, George W. Pintoff, Jr. and wife Marmie of Norfolk, VA, Dwayne Pintoff of Pittsburgh, PA, Darryl Pintoff and wife Angie of Chesnee, SC, and Dale Pintoff and wife Robin of Gaffney, SC; four grandchildren; four adopted grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a dear Special Friend, Cova Moore of Mooresboro, NC.
