George Timmons Wood, Jr., age 88, of Francis Street, Forest City, died August 20, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born December 11, 1926 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late George T. Wood, Sr. and Gertrude Short Wood. He was a veteran of the Korean War and worked for Cone Mills for over forty years. George was a member of Chase Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Wood; infant daughter, LaSondra Wood; two brothers, Burrell F. Wood and Edward Eugene Wood; two sisters, Dorothy Wood and Elizabeth Turner.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Wood and fiancé, Mary Osment of Forest City and David Wood and wife, Betty of Gaffney, SC; sister, Gail W. Quinn and husband, Buck of Ellenboro; four grandchildren, Brian Wood, Hollice Wood, Jeremy Wood and Andrea Elmore. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at four o'clock on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The time of the service will be announced later on Thursday.
