Grover "Sonny" Scoggins

Grover “Sonny” Scoggins, age 69, of Cliffside, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at his residence.

Sonny was born June 30, 1950 in Rutherford County to the late Samuel Jefferson Scoggins and Ruby May Walker Scoggins. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1969. Sonny served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He worked for the Polk County Detention Center for twenty years before retirement and was a member of Fairview Missionary Methodist Church. Sonny enjoyed woodworking and refinishing antiques.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-five years, Angela Splawn Scoggins and seventeen brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Dustin Scoggins (Angela Green) of Cliffside; three sisters, Vivian Payne, Lucy Melton and Wanda Lane (Junior); six grandchildren, Brooklyn White, Noah Scoggins, Kenan Scoggins, Sebastian Scoggins, Kaylee Green and Casandra Green.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dean Cox and Reverend Jimmy Splawn officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
