Haskell Lawing

Haskell 'Hack' Lawing, age 87, of 1136 Old Henrietta Road, Henrietta, NC, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Hack was born on July 24, 1924 in Spartanburg County, SC to the late Thomas Lawing and Lucy Shehan Lawing. He was a graduate of Tri High School and attended Gardner-Webb University. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II. He was one of the founders of Phillips-Lawing Fuel Inc. and served as the company president for over 40 years. He was a long time member of the Henrietta First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was an usher. He also was a member of the Chase Lions Club and Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460. He will be known as a man who loved his work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Robert Kim 'Matt' Lawing Jr. who died in a tragic car accident in 1995; four sisters, Eva Baker of Spartanburg,Genell Campbell of Forest City,Edna Marlowe of Greer and Novella Ledford of Lakeland, FL; two brothers, Lloyd Lawing of Mooresville and Clyde Lawing of Clifton, SC.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sara Phillips Lawing; one son, Robert Kim Lawing and wife, Jenny of Chesnee, SC; two sister in-laws, Helen Anderson and husband, Ralph of Henrietta and Ann Elliott of Henrietta. He is also survived by a special family friend, Troy Blanton and many nieces and nephews.
