Hazel Medford Padgett, age 87, of Bostic, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born September 16, 1929 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late John Medford and Leona Greene Medford. She worked for Fieldcrest Mill and Absorba Manufacturing for several years. She also worked in the delicatessen at Winn-Dixie for many years. Hazel was a faithful member of Walls Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed square dancing and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Jennings Padgett; daughter-in-law, Gracie D. Padgett and a sister, Loretta Luckadoo.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, John J. Padgett of Bostic; three grandsons, Joshua J. Padgett and wife, Emily of Bostic, Jason J. Padgett and wife, April of Bostic and Jeffery J. Padgett and wife, Haley of Mooresboro; two sisters, Ruby Martin of Bostic and Valerie Hawkins of Rutherfordton. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, Avery, Lauren, Garrett, Clayton, Hunter, Dawson, Elliott, Koby, Peyton, Logan, Lindsey, Bethany and Philip.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Walls Baptist Church with Reverend David Philbeck, Dr. Mack Tester and Dr. Robert Toney officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.
