Hazel Crowe Phillips, age 85, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Whiteville, NC after an extended illness.
She was born September 15, 1923 in Cliffside, NC to the late Thomas Mack Crowe and Lula Mae Ricketts Crowe. Hazel graduated from Cliffside High School in 1942 and spent many years working in the textile industry. She married Jack Pinkney Phillips on May 15, 1945. Jack preceded her in death on September 26, 1981. Hazel was a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church for many years and faithfully attended while living in the Rutherford County area.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Phillips Whitman and husband Richard Leon Whitman; two grandsons, Reverend Gabriel David Swing and wife Jan of Davidson, NC and Nicholas Ryan Whitman and wife Jackie of Huntersville, NC; great-grandchildren, Kenny and Grace; one brother, Judson 'Bud' Crow and wife Jeri Keener Crow of Lincolnton, NC.
