Hazel G. Rogers, age 92, of Shelby, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at Peak Resources in Shelby.
Born August 20, 1923 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Gordon and Willie Bridges Gordon. She worked in textiles most of her life before retirement and was of the Baptist Faith. Hazel was known as a hard worker and enjoyed reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus L. Rogers; three sons, Mike, Bruce and David Rogers; one daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Graham; four brothers, Datus, Edgar, Dean and Reid Gordon; two sisters, Frances Baynard and Myrtle Owens; son-in-law, William "Bill" Bridges and granddaughter, Shelia Buff.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Bridges of Forest City; three sisters, Myrlie Barrier of Rutherfordton, Ola Shytle of Forest City and Rose Johnson of Nashville, TN; brother,James Gordon and wife, Pat of Forest City. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery on a later date.
