Homer Mack Guffey, age 79, of Forest City, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at his residence.
Born May 3, 1938 to the late Mack Guffey and Annie Mae Crisson Guffey, he was the widower of Iva Tipton Guffey. Homer was a graduate of R-S Central High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Daniels Construction and Roberson Air-Tech as a HVAC duct installer for many years. His life's passion was boxing which led him to travel nationally and internationally as a boxing trainer.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Bill, Lloyd and Howard Guffey and a sister, Pauline Tucker.
Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Tammy Lynn Johnson and husband, Walter of Forest City; three sons, Jeffery Scott Guffey of Blacksburg, SC, Timothy Mack Guffey and Randy William Guffey both of Forest City; one brother, Sam Guffey and wife, Elaine and a sister, JoAnn Bostic all of Forest City. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sonja Thomas, Ryan Guffey, Hannah Guffey, Stevie Guffey, Austin Guffey and three great-grandchildren, Wesley, Cara and Hattie.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Grace Chapel Foursquare Church of Forest City with Reverend Ricky Poteat and Reverend Paul Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the Spindale City Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
