Howard Bennett, age 77, of 675 Boss Moore Road, Caroleen, NC, died Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Asheville VA Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William and Bertha Wilson Bennett. He was a retired war veteran who served the country that he loved for 23 years in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in the 11th and 82nd Airborne Division and in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. During his tour in Vietnam, he was involved with the well-known Tet Offensive. He also worked as a mechanic for A & E Plastics for 20 years before his subsequent retirement. He will always be known for his sense of adventure and his love for travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Perri Lynn Bennett and one brother, Lawson Bennett.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joan Green Bennett; one daughter, Gaye Stinson and her husband Michael of Macon, GA; two sons, Major Eric Bennett and his wife Amiie of Bolton Landing, NY and Jason A. Bennett and his wife Tammy of Caroleen; seven grandchildren, Camdon Stinson, Kyle Stinson, Casey Bennett, McGuire Bennett, Drew Bennett, Danielle Bennett and Cole Bennett; one great-grandchild, Jayden Stinson; four sisters and one brother.
