Howard Emory

Howard T. Emory, age 84, of Rutherfordton, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his residence.
Born March 4, 1930 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was a son of the late Vernon Emory and Esmer Hawkins Emory. Howard served in the US Army during the Korean War. In his earlier days, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed watching Westerns, working on word search puzzles and listening to John Hagee's sermons. He was a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude "Cooter" Vickers Emory and one brother, Max Emory.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Emory of Augusta, Georgia and Joey Emory and wife, Annette of Rutherfordton; three daughters, Pam Rush and husband, Henry, Gail Guffey and husband, Howard, Judy Odell and husband, Joe all of Forest City; two sisters, Mary Lou West of Greenhill and Ethel Ann Emory of Forest City. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Wayne Toney officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
