Hubert Burgess

Hubert Dean "Koon" Burgess, age 78, of Francis Drive, Forest City, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1939 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Clarence Lee Burgess and Emma Ruth Gilbert Burgess. He was veteran of the U.S. Army and own and operated local service stations. Hubert also worked for Cone Mills-Avondale and as a plumber for Bill Childers. Among his life's enjoyments were dancing and shooting pool. He was a faithful participant at the Rutherford County Senior Center and thoroughly enjoyed all the activities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann "Tootsie" Burgess; daughter, Denise Ann Burgess Stacey and sister, Sybil Arrowood.
Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Bobby Dean Burgess of Cliffside; brother, Bob Burgess and wife, Bertha of Caroleen; sister, Jeretha Reid of Lucas, NC; two granddaughters, Ashley Dawn Wilson (Brandon Davis) of Forest City and Amy Pruett (Philip) of Rutherfordton. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Dallas, Heath, Zaylee, Karsyn, Penelope, Harper and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
