J. Cantrell

Mr. John Young Cantrell, age 87 of 170 Franklin Drive, Forest City, NC died Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Rutherford Hospital. He was born July 3, 1919 in Rutherford County and was the oldest child of Frank Young Cantrell and Eula McMahan Cantrell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Cantrell and Harley Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was a former pitcher with the textile league and was a minor league pitcher for the Chicago Cubs. He served four years in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Benson. Mr. Cantrell retired as a supervisor with Cone mills after 44 years of service. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church. Mr. Cantrell was a very devoted husband and father.
