James Lawrence Tate, age 74, of Nuggett Lane, Forest City, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born January 28, 1943 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Norman Tate and Beatrice Summers Tate. James worked at Cone Mills-Cliffside Plant for over forty years before retirement and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Henrietta. He was an avid fisherman and owned the local T & M Racing Team, car # 12. You would always find James at the Harris Speedway of Cherokee Speedway during racing season.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant great-grandchildren, Leland James Miller, Dwayne Lee Miller and Brantley Keith Miller.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Mozelle Tate; daughter, Deborah Taylor of Forest City; sister, Martha Horn of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Tiffany Toney and Sean Toney and wife, Paige all of Forest City and one great-grandson, Tucker Miller.
The memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Henrietta with Reverend Mike Cash officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
