Janie Green Ledford, age 82, of Bostic, NC, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born June 18, 1931 in Haywood County, NC, she was a daughter to the late Frank Green and Elzie Wyatt Green. She worked for Drexel-Heritage Furniture for over 35 years before her retirement and was a Free Will Baptist. Janie enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, collecting dolls and baking her famous cakes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Jimmy Leon Ledford; two grandchildren, Dawn Morrow and Michael Green; two sisters, Evelyn Inman and Opel Ledford and three brothers, Carl Green, Sam Green and Edward "Red" Green.
Survivors include four daughters, Jean Henson and husband, David of Ellenboro, Margie Green and husband, Johnny, Shirley Haney and husband, Phillip all of Waynesville, NC and Jackie Morrow and husband, Eddie of Lexington, NC; son, Leon Ledford of Bostic; sister, Alice Stephens and husband, Danny and brother, Alvin Green also all of Waynesville. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, seventeen nieces and ten nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend James Messer, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
