Jennings L. Padgett, age 85, of Bostic, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Born May 9, 1930 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Grover J. Padgett and Avis Bridges Padgett. He was a graduate of Ellenboro High School and served in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War. Jennings worked for Standard Coffee and Charles Chips Company for many years. He also worked for Stonecutter Mills and Winn-Dixie Grocery. He was a life-long member of Walls Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. Jennings was also a member of the Hollis Masonic Lodge #535, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, sports, square dancing, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William F. "Billy" Padgett and daughter in-law, Gracie D. Padgett.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-five years, Hazel Medford Padgett; son, John J. Padgett of Bostic; three grandsons, Joshua J. Padgett and wife, Emily, Jason J. Padgett and wife, April and Jeffery J. Padgett and wife, Haley all of Bostic. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Walls Baptist Church with Reverend David Philbeck, Reverend Dr. Mack Tester and Reverend Dr. Robert Toney officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church at other times they will be gathered at his son's house at 440 W. E. Padgett Road, Bostic.
