Jerry Toney

Jerry Toney, age 76, of Bostic, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Charles George Veterans Medical Center in Asheville.

Jerry was born July 29, 1944 in Rutherford County to the late Hicks Toney and Lucy Morrow Toney. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Jerry worked as a brick mason most of his life. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served on the security team at the church. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, tractors, gardening and taking care of his dogs. He was a proud and active member of the Rutherford County Honor Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shelby Jean Toney; two brothers, David and Donald Toney and a sister, Dorothy Toney Carver.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Deurlene Hodge Toney; son, Jerry Darrell Toney (Dawn) of Rock Hill and daughter, Pamela Toney Melton (Jeff) of Ponce Inlet, Florida; sister, Doris Toney Scronce of Shelby; three grandchildren, Whitney Blake Butler, Bryson Lee Parris, Jerrett Ethan Toney and great-grandchild, Alexander Holden Graves.

A private service will be conducted. Friends may visit the funeral home and view the body from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Rutherford County Honor Guard, 564 Terry Road, Ellenboro, NC  28040.
