Jessie Mae Bowen, age 94, of Mooresboro, NC died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at her residence.
Jessie was born November 10, 1924 in Rutherford County to the late Edward Baynard, Sr. and Zula Mae Smith Baynard. She worked as a nurse's assistant for Gastonia Hospital and later for Spindale Mill for many years until retirement. She was a member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning and going camping. She loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-five years, Roy Lee Bowen; two sons, Billy Baynard and Donald Baynard; a grandson, Floyd Lee Bowen; five brothers and five sisters.
Those left to treasure her memory include four daughters, Marie Craft (Danny) of Forest City, Ruth Mellon (Mike) of Shelby, Christine Bowen of Forest City and Denise Bowen of Forest City; two sons, Joe Bowen (Kathy Inman) of Mooresboro and Harold Baynard of Spindale; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Baynard of Bostic and Margaret Baynard of Gastonia; brother-in-law, Barry Caldwell of Gastonia and her loving caretakers, Joann Mellon and Patricia Baynard.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dennis Yelton officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
