Jessie Dobbins Cochran, age 88, of Forest City, NC, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Born April 25, 1925 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Tom Dobbins and Mary Phine Kennedy Dobbins. Jessie's greatest pleasure in life came from her connections to family, church family, and friends. Her role as homemaker surrounded by family was central; she also enjoyed long-standing friendships from her work at WAGY Radio, as a teacher's assistant at Proctor Elementary School, and other work over the years. As a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mooresboro, church and church family were a vital aspect of her life. She shared of herself with others through her hobbies of gardening, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and keeping a full schedule of visits with family and friends by phone and in person.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Floyd Clifton Cochran; brother, Charles Eugene Dobbins and sister, Eileen Watkins Gurkin.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Cochran of Forest City; two sons, Ken Cochran and wife, Shelby of Rutherfordton and Thomas C. Cochran of Cherryville, NC; sister, Patsy Tate of Simpsonville, SC; two grandchildren, Jeff Cochran and wife, Jennifer and Amy Cochran all of Rutherfordton and one great-grandson, Jake Cochran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church of Mooresboro with Reverend Tim Frashier officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
