Jimmy Clayton, age 84, of Shelby, NC, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Jimmy was born June 6, 1934 in Rutherford County to the late Leland Clayton and Katie Smith Clayton. He was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1952 and a lifetime member of Providence United Methodist Church. Jimmy worked for Stonecutter Mill for twenty-eight years and for Michelin Tire Company before retirement. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, yard work and camping. He was also an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, Henry and Ralph Clayton and two sisters, Nancy Hames and Francis Greenlee.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty years, Shirley Clayton; daughter, Pam Amos of Shelby and granddaughter, Ashton Amos. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Linda Carlton of Hermitage, Tennessee and Marjorie Clayton of Forest City.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors being provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
