Jimmy Ray Upton

Jimmy Ray Upton, age 69, of Mooresboro, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Jimmy was born Thursday, September 3, 1953 in Rutherford County to the late Charlie Upton and Laura Daggerhart Upton. He worked as a truck driver/car hauler most of his life. Jimmy grew up going to the Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed working on word puzzle books, fishing, camping and going on trips to the mountains. He was dedicated to his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lillian Gibson, Boyce Upton, Charles Upton, Jr., Margaret Holmes and Betty Rhom.

Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife of thirty-six years, Kathy Upton; sons, Jimmy Ray Upton, Jr. (Angie) of Union Mills, Todd Newton of Mooresboro, Jason Upton (Jenny) of Mooresboro and Chad Newton (Lynn) of Mooresboro; two brothers, Floyd Upton of Spindale and Mike Upton (Renee) of Rutherfordton: elven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 28th at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Jason Madison officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the graveside. Mr. Upton’s body will lie in state from 8:00 am until noon on Tuesday.
